Activities
NIEUDEGAT GITES is the ideal base for discovering the treasures of the Dordogne and Lot region nearby including Sarlat, Souillac, Rocomadour, Padirac, Les Eyzies, Lascaux II, La Roque Gageac, Domme and many more places all within an hour’s drive.

CYCLING – on road and off road (ATB)
Our knowledge of cycling in the area has grown since we first arrived here in 2003 and from our cycling group holidays held over the last 5 years; we have maps and information available to help you make the most of your cycling time. We have links with the local cycling club in Sarlat so keen cyclists can join their club runs, with the A, B or C groups on the roads and, there are over 100 kms off-road 'jeep' tracks for cycling and walking. A Bike Bus service is operated by a company in Sarlat and will deliver bikes to various hubs including the green route cycle path nearby at Rouffillac and they also have guided rides in July and August.

WALKING
There are numerous footpaths and tracks where you are able to explore the areas not accessible by car. The Grand Route GR6, one of the main national footpaths, passes through the area

Shady tracks abound for those days when it would be too hot to walk in the sun. Track down the local flora and fauna to the sound of birdsong. Tranquility! Take a picnic and don't forget your camera and binoculars to capture the flowers, birds and wildlife.

CANOE THE DORDOGNE
The River Dordogne is 6kms south of 'Nieudegat Gites'. This is one of the longest rivers in France and is said to be the most beautiful (we would not dispute that), renowned for its riverside chateaux, prehistoric sites and traditional Perigordian food. Canoe the river to experience its full beauty.

There are canoe hire facilities available within easy reach. You are taken by mini-bus upstream and can choose from a variety of different length trips and canoe downstream, to a predetermined pick-up point, usually a riverside cafe/bar, from where you are transported back. This is a recommended method of site-seeing the chateaux and the world famous prehistoric cave dwellings of La Roque-Gageac, this being the 3rd most visited site in France, or passing below the cliffs of Domme with its links to the Knights Templar and the Crusades. You can stop along the way on one of the many beaches and have a picnic, (you can hire a waterproof container for your food and belongings with the canoe), or stop for lunch or a snack in one of the cafes located on the bankside. We can guarantee this is a very relaxing and fun way to experience the river and sights. Don't forget the suncream - especially for your legs!.

Stand-Up Paddle boarding (SUP) also available along the river.
